First Time for Everything...
I've been doing this railfanning thing, since, basically, 1983. Since then I've railfanned, to some degree, in three different continents and this was the first time I've ever photographed an electric-powered freight train.
The Deseret Power Railway is a 35-mile long conveyor belt of sorts on the upper UT/CO border. Owned by Blue Mountain Energy, this railroad has no outside connections and has but one purpose: to move coal from BME's Deserado Mine in Colorado to the Generating Station near Bonanza, UT.
Here, we catch the morning loaded train as it grinds out of the loadout towards Holum Pass with DPR-2, one of two units originally built for the line, leading two former Mexican cousins.
