St. Peters Basilica in the Vatican City and the Ponte Sant'Angelo, Bridge of Angels, Rome

You can't have a more spectacular location for a sunset in Rome, other than the Ponte (Bridge) Umberto. This bridge gives you a classic view of the Ponte Sant'e Angelo & the St. Peters Basilica's Dome.

The place is a popular haunt for photographers & tourists, so reach the Umberto, at least half an hour prior to the sunset. Elbow/ request/ smile/ gnarl yourself to the best vantage point on the left side of the pathway, overlooking the Basilica. If required use your tripod as a bayonet to jostle the herd away. Ya we photographers can be really nasty at sunsets. Stay put after sunset, as the best hues develop & the Vatican gets lit up.

There are various restaurants & pubs beneath the Sant'Angelo bridge, where you can reunite with your family & friends for a drink or dinner. Post sunset I assure you, we photographers aren't a bad company at all. Caveat - The sunset should have been good! :)
