Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Angkor Wat is without doubt one of the most incredible of the Cambodian heritage sites. Unlike any other Hindu temples & other Cambodian architecture, Angkor Wat faces west & hence to see the sun come up from the rear of Angkor Wat is one spectacular sight to behold. We checked out the twilight & sun rise timings & locations on "The Photographers' Ephemeris" & reached at the temple really early at 5:10 a.m.,to capture the visual, smiling all the while, at the thought that, we would be the very few ones there. We reached in pitch darkness, but Lo....there were at least five hundred people, all around the moat, with all the prime photographing spots taken! frown emoticon.
Not disturbed at this turn of events, we used our best of Surati "Jostling-Elbowing-through-D-Crowd-Ways," crunching a few toes, uttering apologies that we never meant, enhancing our vocabulary of the swear words from the world around & reached right in the front of the moat! Whew! We sat in the muddy corners of the moat, set the tripod real low & saw the clouds change from twilight purple to various shades of pink, burning saffron & a lovely aurum in an pastel azure sky.
Totally worth all the angry looks & muttered four letter words that we learnt, as the sun rays painted the sky aurum.
