14. A level project titled 'Passions and Obsessions'. completed work. (final piece).
This was the exam piece I produced for A Level. I developed my ideas of fast food even more and I looked into how the Western World own the most money and yet we are the parts of the world that suffer the most from obesity. I continued looking at African children and how many of them are forever struggling to stay alive, and yet here we are spending all our money on unhealthy, processed food when really we should be buying healthy, nutricious food. So I conjured up the idea of creating a 'Happy Meal Box' for a child in Africa. I wanted this final piece to shock. So I made a replica of a 'Happy Meal Box' and instead of painting a happy looking child on the front like what you normally see in McDonalds. I painted an image of a young African girl looking very solemn. And i made objects to go inside the box; I painted a dry landscape on the side of a drinks bottle to emphasise the fact that in Africa they often suffer from a lack of water. On the outside of a burger box I drew a mosquito and inside the box I put a folded up piece of green netting to resemble a mosquito net (like the ones they often use in hot climates). I also filled a chips packet full of rolled up currency notes from various countries around the world that are a lot wealthier than Africa. The whole point of this piece was to alter a typical Mc Donalds Happy Meal Box into something more suitable for the people in Africa. This piece is quite thought provoking and that is what I was hoping to achieve.
