Ferrybridge Power Station

Ferrybridge Power Station & the A1(M) / M62 Motorway Interchange, West Yorkshire.

I made a 200 mile round trip just to take this picture, so I was glad the conditions were fine, although a light shower passed over about 30 minutes before passed over I could see the sky clearing behind it. This is a composite of two images taken around 20 minutes apart. I took several early images using a Lee Little Stopper to capture the light trails. When the sky got darker and the steam exiting the cooling towers contrasted more with the background sky I was able to take a 150 sec exposure of the power station. The light trails on this 150 sec exposure were completely blown out, as I expected. After initial processing in Lightroom I imported the two images into Photoshop & created a layer of the light trails image. This was then merged with the long exposure of the power station. Some blending was required to make sure there there was no hard contrast between the two.

The power station, unfortunately, is set to close in Spring 2016.
