Riverside Slums
It was a quiet Monday morning on the riverbanks of the Congo river. Locals had just brought their catches in for the day. But something was different today. The birds in the area are few and far between, far from the normal flocks that pestered the fisherman for a quick bite to eat. Something bad was coming. Little did they know, Kinshasa was about to witness the bloodiest day of its history.
UFA, Oceanic and NATO forces have been in the city for 2 weeks now but there has been a stalemate with the Eurasian’s occupying the city. Morning details were commonplace, with a firefight every couple days, but no advances have been made by either side. On Monday, May 12, 2037, the Battle of Kinshasa would commence.
Before Dawn, UFA forces and their allies moved into the Slums of Kinshasa on the edge of the Congo river. Crates, barrels, and boxes covered the street on the border. Construction had already begun on the pillars that would eventually support the Plate, and this would make excellent cover for the coming battle. General Masego Abbas assumed command of all the soldiers in the area, placing himself along with his kin on the frontlines but out of sight. A second team would be stationed on the docks ready to be called in when Eurasian forces were at their most vulnerable.
The latest intel the Eurasian forces received was that UFA/Oceanic forces were flooding into the Kinshasa slums, so this morning detail would be assigned twice the normal amount of troops, a significant portion of the Eurasian backup was called in for this detail to snuff out the opposition.
*Gunshot*
UFA snipers perched up in the storage containers balancing on top of the shanty houses began expertly eliminating Eurasian infantry surprised by the sudden fire fight that just commenced. The UFA, Oceanic and NATO soldiers came out of hiding and began lighting up the Eurasian soldiers who scrambled to get cover. Barrages of bullets were exchanged for what seemed like hours, but was actually the span of 30 minutes. The AART-17 then began sending rounds into shanties housing the opposition. If that wasn’t dealt with soon there would be nothing left.
The second UFA/Oceanic team was radioed to begin their assault and to take out that tank. Bundles of explosives were thrown up from the docks below. And *BOOM* the tank had been dealt with. To the Eurasian’s surprise, they began to be overwhelmed by the reinforcements coming from the docks. It was too much, and the Eurasian commanders surrendered.
Bodies littered the street. Buildings were starting to crumble while others were newly decorated with bullet holes. The battle was over, and even though the UFA was victorious, it didn’t seem like a win. The reality of heavy casualties loomed over every soldier's head.
The Aftermath: The joint effort made by the UFA and Oceanic forces was enough to Liberate the Congo from the Eurasian grip. Kinshasa was the last major stronghold in the Congo. Military occupation would resume by the UFA within the Congo and Zambia. Congolese and Zambian officials were imprisoned for treason against their people.. Emergency elections would take place to elect new leaders for these newly liberated countries. A full withdrawal of Eurasian forces from Africa would take place effective immediately. After four months of military occupation, the UFA forces would reduce their presence in these countries.
This is my final entry for Operation Cetshwayo. I hope you enjoy!
