The Western Veil Nebula (NGC 6960)

The nebula consists of heated and ionized gas and dust and it is located in the constellation Cygnus. This expanding cloud is a supernova remnant of a star that exploded between 10000 and 20000 years ago. The distance is estimated from 1200 to 5800 light-years whereas a recent determination says it has a distance of about 2400 light-years. Exposures for this image were taken in 4 nights from late July to August 2024.

 

DE: Dieser Nebel besteht aus aufgeheiztem und ionisiertem Gas und Staub und befindet sich in der Konstellation Schwan (Cygnus). Diese sich ausdehnende Wolke ist ein Supernovaüberrest von einem Stern, der vor 10000 bis 20000 Jahren explodierte. Die Entfernung wird auf 1200 bis 5800 Lichtjahre geschätzt, wobei eine neuere Bestimmung auf 2400 Lichtjahre kommt. Die Belichtungen zu diesem Bild wurden in 4 Nächten zwischen Ende Juli und August 2024 gemacht.
