Always a day of remembrance for those who were taken, and for their families and friends who will forever be without them.
In addition to the loss of life, I also mourn the loss of powerful spirit and communal togetherness that arose in the aftermath of these tragedies. Today, eleven years later, I feel little sense of community, tolerance, even civility. So, this is also a day of reflection for me - how can we come together again as a country - at least not hate each other? I certainly can't answer that, but I can try to improve my little corner: become more involved in my community, more tolerant of differences, and more responsive to hope than despair.
