Above Ground - Penallta Pit
Back in the early 90s my beloved's job was to help miners leaving the industry as it was destroyed to find new jobs. So that she knew the range of the typical miner's skill set she was invited to go underground at Penallta pit. I wangled an invitation to join her and this was taken after we surfaced from 4 hours in the mine.
It was an amazing experience, I worked in the Steel industry and was used to harsh conditions but going into a working seam hundreds of feet down was truly memorable.
I found this polaroid picture in a box of old photos today and it seemed too good not to share
