Intertwined - TROML - 1097

This example of an epicyclic gear train was created by 3D printing. It is not possible to assemble this gear train from the 6 constituent parts. The gear shapes are such that the gearwheels are forever intertwined.

The gear set, printed by Cardiff Uni Engineering Dept, is an example of what 3D printing can do. They were being given out at a recent event in Swansea called Soapbox Science.
