For many of the major sites we had a local guide.
Perito Moreno was no exception. This fellow knew of a nesting Magellanic woodpecker so off into the woods we went. Sure enough high u pin a tree was a hole and eventually a female stuck her head out of the hole. She promptly flew off to several trees before posing the tree with her nest and then entering.
How this guy ever found this nest and the bird is beyond me. He must have spent alot of time in the woods.
This was big big bird relative to most.
Note the moss on the tree. This reminded me of the Pacific Northwest where the moss is also a common sight.
