Pikachu Otaku
1996/October/20: 1st Expansion Pack - 1st Edition (Base Set)
Name: Pikachu
AKA: 1st Edition Pikachu
Release Date: 1996/October/20
Expansion / Set: 1st Expansion Pack - 1st Edition
Card #: [035/096]
Approx. Value: $15.00 - $25.00
Notes:
The "Base Set" is based on and was inspired by the Game Boy video game Pokémon Red and Green and is the origin of Pokémon TCG. The name "Base Set" was given to this set by fans and collectors because it is the basis for Pokémon TCG, but was initially released simply as the "Pokémon Card Game".
This card could be acquired through a limited release of special Japanese booster packs. The cards in these packs do not have a rarity symbol and are considered 1st Edition. Cards from the Japanese Base Set with rarity symbol are unlimited. This is the only set to release cards without rarity symbols in booster packs. Though many early theme decks contained cards without rarity symbols, the theme deck tied to this set is actually a “starter” type theme deck and only contains cards with rarity symbols. This card is not in the Starter Pack Theme Deck.
5 variations of this card were released. This version does not have a rarity symbol or an expansion symbol.
