He was son of Alecu Obreja (1827-1895) and Ecaterina Obreja (born Xantopol); he had two brothers Anastasie Obreja (1864-1937; who became Professor of Chemistry at the Iassy University), Grigore Obreja (became lawyer) and a sister, Eugenia. He married Christine Walaschek. They had three children : Alexandru, Nicoletta and Maria Romana.

Mrs.Lilian Theil (born Obregia), to whom I am deeply grateful, is daughter of his son Alexandru; she offered me for study and uploading on flickr, a suitcase containing the photos of her grandfather. The collection is heterogeneous, it covers the history of the family between the late 1850’s and the 1930’s. One album, perhaps that of Alexandru Obregia, contains photographs of his family, of his colleagues and of his friends. Another album, perhaps that of his wife, is devoted mainly to the Walaschek family and the Obregia children. Unfortunately, only part of the photos contain clues for a proper identification of the people portrayed. On the other hand, some of the photos had borders (or corners) cut, in order to make them fit the narrow orifices of the album pages. Despite all these, I found the collection of great interest, particularly, for the history of photography in Romania.
