Ai primi di maggio ho avuto l' idea di creare dei fiori finti con dei cucchiaini di plastica per attirare-distrarre gli insetti come i coleotteri Oxythyrea funesta che si mangiano le parti molli dei fiori e compromettono quindi lo sviluppo dei frutti. Non è che siano un vero problema, in effetti, non ce ne sono così tanti, ma visto che sono attirati dal colore bianco dei petali, ho voluto provare. Al centro di ogni fiore ho messo un impasto di miele e pezzetti di fiori sfioriti del cotogno e del melo, più uno fresco di composita, e devo dire che sono stati abbastanza efficaci. Dopo che li ho posizionati fra le foglie e i fiori degli alberi di cotogno, sono arrivati alcuni coleotteri di Oxythyrea (nelle ore più assolate fra le 12 e le 14 circa), ma soprattutto c' è stato l' assalto delle formiche (a loro però, non importava il sole). Nei giorni successivi, quando ormai i fiori veri erano tutti sfioriti, ho provato di nuovo, ma più che altro è arrivata qualche ape. Comunque, devo dire che il metodo un po' funziona, gli insetti hanno gradito molto. :-))
In early May I had the idea of creating fake flowers with plastic spoons to attract-distract insects such as the fungal Oxythyrea beetles that eat the soft parts of the flowers and thus compromise the development of fruits. It is not that they are a real problem, in fact, there are not so many, but since they are attracted by the white color of the petals, I wanted to try. At the center of each flower I put a mixture of honey and small pieces of flowers of quince and apple, plus a fresh of composite, and I must say that they were quite effective. After I placed them between the leaves and the flowers of the quince trees, there are some beetles of Oxythyrea (in the most sunny hours between 12 and 14), but above all there was the assault of ants (but they did not care about the sun). In the following days, when now the real flowers were all touched, I tried again, but more than anything else came some bee. However, I have to say that the method somewhat works, the insects liked it very much. :-))
