Redmire Loader
Rakes of Standard Wagon 1975 built 37t PGA hopper wagons, used by British Steel to transport limestone to the smelters on Teeside, are seen at Redmire Quarry at the then terminus of the 22 mile freight only branch from Castle Mills Junction, situated to the north of Northallerton on the East Coast Main Line.
This lenghty freight only line was scheduled to close, only 10 days after our visit on Herfordshire Railtours 'The Wensleydale Ranger'.
It is now forms part of the Wensleydale Railway, which runs from Scruton in the Vale of Mowbray to Redmire in the Yorkshire Dales.
