Woodcut depiction of the rosary (with printed instructions for prayer in Latin above) used by Friedrich Peypus of Nuremberg

Woodcut depiction of the rosary (with printed instructions for prayer in Latin above) used by Friedrich Peypus of Nuremberg, with central figure of crucified Christ surmounted by God the Father and the Holy Spirit as a dove, with Madonna and Child Jesus at left and angel at right. To either side of the crucified Christ are three rows of figures:

Top left: Old Testament figures, including King David with harp and Moses with the tablets of the Law; also possibly St. John the Baptist pointing to a lamb(?).

Top right: New Testament figures (St. Peter with keys; St. Paul with sword; symbols of the four Evangelists)

Middle left: Male saints, possibly Church Fathers?

Middle right: Male saints, probably Church Fathers, including Pope St. Gregory and St. Jerome with lion.

Bottom left: Female saints, including St. Barbara with Cup and Host and St. Catherine with sword and wheel.

Bottom right: Female saints.

The whole is surrounded by a rosary with flowers for beads and Maltese crosses marking the decades.

At head of image (left to right): Pope St. Gregory? (the Eucharistic miracle) or St. Dominic?; two angels supporting a cloth with the Holy Face of Jesus; an unidentified saint (St. Francis?).

At foot of image: Probably a depiction of Purgatory (note the figures being taken in hand by angels at left and right, as well as the praying figures in the flames).
