'DRAGON GATE

Now this is a very complex painting and the first painting I have really liked that I have channeled in quite sometime.
One of the things about channeling is that you never know what you are going to get, it will never have a consistent style or look, and I might not like it for I have no control over the image I am receiving.
PAINTING "DRAGON GATE"
Today I started with a recycled canvas that was purchased from the Salvation Army; I re-primed and got to work.
This painting came pretty easy compared to some and I enjoyed creating it.
I could sense something in it about 1hr into painting with my hands and grating them all through and on the canvas.
I used oils, acrylics, and metallic paints, a knife, and my finger nails as tools.
My hands were black by the time I had completed it and I really had no idea how much was hiding visually within this canvas until I took a good look at it under bright lights and with a magnifying glass.
ANALYZING THE PAINTING
Now when I first started analyzing it I could see the Devil right away and had assumed that this was just another channeled painting of the devil but boy was I wrong!
This is the TRANSFORMATION DRAGON from Japanese and Chinese culture lore.
Now take a look at the two big orange black and red Koi fish swimming down stream on the left hand side of the canvas.
Now I was surprised to see these fish on my canvas and at first just assumed they were part of the Devils Torso but No they are swimming downs a waterfall, and the head of the transformed dragon sits high upon their tales.
THE KOI MEANING
After this painting was completed I did about 30 minutes of research on Koi fish to see if there was some symbolism and there is lots.
I discovered that the Koi fish stands for determination, perseverance, and ambition. This is because the Koi has persevered and worked hard to overcome a great obstacle (the waterfall) in order to achieve its goal, which is to be a magnificent dragon.
Another notable interpretation for the Koi fish relates the legend to independence and individualism. The fact that the Koi swam against the current and even up the waterfall could be seen as non-conformism and willingness to go against the established norm. The triumph of the fish to go up the waterfall can also be seen as a symbol and encouragement to surpass expectations and to reach the impossible, while the actual act of going against the current could be seen as a form of bravery.
ME AND KOI
Now on a personal level when I was in Tokyo I had a beautiful day where I put my hand in the water and literally hundred of them came to the surface and kissed my hands.
I have the image of it still buried very deep in my mind for there are some memories that a photograph can never capture.
I brainstormed some more to try and think of why I possibly painted these Koi fish.
The only other thing I could come up with was this really old lyric that I wrote back in 2002 that I never got to use in my songs.
The lyric to the Chorus was ‘And you shall be like Koi”
I wrote that lyric without doing any research on what a Koi meant and now I understand what they mean and now it all makes sense to me.
So to have this appear in my painting so many years later is really fantastic a message that there could be more adversity ahead and that I am in transformation. So I am really pleased with this painting and excited.
MORE SYMBOLS IN THE CANVAS
Other things I saw within this painting during a very up-close inspection:
A sexy female with her back turned and walking into flames, a white faced shogun warrior, a burning church, and also an upside down turtle or tortoise.
See if you can also see them 2of them will be too small to see in a photo but you can see the church and the turtle with out seeing the painting up close.
NEW STYLE
The style if this painting is a very Folk Art style which is new to me.
I have only just begun looking at it and there could be so much more to be uncovered about it's meaning and not just on a personal level but on a global level.
This is a great painting I am pleased for once I hope you enjoy it.
