Days of Naivety
This photo is from Grassy Ridge Bald in the Roan Highlands, back in my days of a 10 MP camera, poor quality multi-purpose lens, and shooting in jpeg. I was early in making the transition from just running around the mountains camping and having a great time to attempting to document the travels in better photos than a point and shoot could offer. These were good times, especially '09. I didn't have to plan a lot for what was conducive to great photos, I'd just blunder along anywhere when it was convenient and wander into scenes like this pretty much all the time. Now as I think my ability to compose and process has progressed somewhat, and the equipment much better for this type of scenery, it now often seems like a whole lot of work with hopes of it coming around a fraction of the time if I'm diligent and really clever with planning. Travel is also far more expensive with the price of gas, almost getting 3 trips for the price of one now. ___________________________________ I spent several days up here this year and they all looked like this in the sky most of the time, couldn't take a bad photo in any direction. Since then in '10 there was hardly a bloom to be found. '11 it was unseasonably hot, the peak went fast and the sky was hazy and ugly. '12 it was really cold, windy and rainy though the bloom was alright, I left after one night. '13 reports of the bloom were poor and the photos I saw from others confirmed it, so I didn't bother leaving Carvers Gap. Hopefully this coming spring will be like this again during the peak days. ___________________________________Raining today without a whole lot to do, so thought I'd go back and try to mess with an old photo. I just can't bring out stuff in processing with jpeg photos to my satisfaction and that is what keeps a lot of these great old ones with such limitations back in the archives. Oh to only have them in RAW... ___________________________________My images cannot be purchased or licensed. Images will also not be given away for free so don't ask. It is forbidden to download my images or share them to another online forum. My images shared to Flickr, are for viewing on Flickr, and that is it!
