Burton and Beatties, Aug 1988 print

Here's the apex of Victoria and Darlington Streets in Wolves - when Beatties hadn't taken over the Burton store. This looks to be post James's death, as the oval shop windows have been altered. I think they removed the moving circular doors at that time, too - they used to be great fun to navigate as a child!! They were sited at the entrance inside where the portico is. Also removed from Beatties is the magnificent central, sweeping staircase on the other side of the building... I loved that! Instead, there are soulless multi-laned escalators. So many people dislike them!

 

Ooh - there's a VW Beetle at the edge of the photo! My late father had 3 in succession when I was a kid!
