Boreal Camel Cricket (Ceuthophilus brevipes)

Camel crickets get their name from their humpbacked appearance which is similar to a camel. They are widespread in N.A. and throughout the world. Camel crickets do not have sound producing organs and thus cannot chirp. Additionally unlike other crickets, they do not have wings. They leap when they are frightened, their only defense mechanism. This species seems to be the common species in eastern N.A. Captured and identified by Dave Webster.
