1. I chose this layout with all the great lines that lead your eyes around the layout and to the front door, also the blue hue in the sky compliments the yellow/red hues of the building. The awning create nice manmade shapes that repeat creating interest.
2. The focal point which is about where the steps are, displays good contrast of light and dark values. The dark behind the steps leads your eye up to the focal point. Also the organic texture and pattern of the climbing vines contrasts with the exterior wall by the door that is just straight stucco.
3. I exposed the photo just enough to have clear brightness as well as good contrast. And the colors look as vibrant as they can be on this overcast gray day. I was lucky to get a little blue in the sky. The light is muted with soft lines, not much shadow.
4. Since it was an overcast day I had to experiment with my shudder and f stop to get the exposure just right, and to get a clear detailed picture. The white balance was set at auto which was good because I had forgotten about setting it.
5. I often admire this building which is a guild house for the church and all the interesting lines in the architecture attracted my attention. I chose a vertical layout to feature all these vertical lines. Also the random lines of the vines climbing up the building add a nice organic design.
