Rivet nut setter
I finally got round to buying a rivet nut setter. This is one of the cheaper sub £20 types that only does M4 to M8 but I reasoned that if I wanted more than M8 it would be for a load bearing part so this isn't an appropriate fixing anyway.
The rivet nuts / nutserts / rivnuts (or whatever you want to call them) fix into a sheet in essentially the sameway as a rivet but then allow you to screw directly to a panel which is handy if you can't get to the other side to pop a nut on such as inside box section.
It takes considerably more muscle to operate than a hand riveter and is not going to be much fun to use in any tight spaces
