All Aboard - Great Crested Grebe Mother and Baby.
This young Great Crested Grebe was merrily swimming around, but never ventured far from its mother. After a while it must have got tired and suddenly climbed aboard its mother's back and hitched a ride.I have seen other photos with the youngster on its mother's back, but this was the first time I've witnessed it for myself. I was fascinated. The Grebes I've seen in the UK never seem to come that close. In Lake Garda, Italy they do actually come very close to the waters edge.
