These images show the central part of the Coma Galaxy Cluster; Abell 1656, and were taken from Pelsall in the West Midlands. It's quite rare that I attempt to image faint targets from home due to the light pollution, but with this being galaxy season I thought I'd give it a go.
Abell 1656 is a supercluster of galaxies located in the constellation of Coma Berenices, it contains over 1000 identified galaxies and is approximately 321 million light years from Earth. The light that we're seeing in this image left these galaxies around 100 million years before the dinosaurs existed.
I ran the image through Astromety.net and it identified around forty of the brighter galaxies - see annotated versions. The stars in these images are quite well defined circles, so any other smudge or blob you see is most likely a galaxy.
