Jodo Mission

This is Lahaina's famous Jodo Mission. It's a Buddhist mission that was founded by Japanese immigrants in 1912. The original temple was actually destroyed in a fire in 1968, and, was replaced with a Japanese style temple. In 1970, the pagoda and the temple were built. Today, it is Lahaina's most famous site.

Visitors actually aren't permited to enter the temple, only Buddhists are allowed to enter it. The door is usually open though, so you can climb up the stairs and take a peek inside.

Our guidebook said to remove your shoes even when climbing up the stairs, but it was raining, so there was no way we were gonna do that. And you only have to take your shoes off if you go inside, which you're not allowed to do, so I don't know why our guidebook said that. I didn't see it writen anywhere else, or at any of the other temples that we visited.
