311/366 Dia De Los Muertos Marigold Parade and Celebration

This is the day we celebrate and honour the lives of those who have died. Although it sounds as though it might be a somber affair, Day of the Dead is anything but.

The Albuquerque Marigold Parade celebrates and honours the dead by having the living gather for music, dance, food, art and visiting with family and friends. The parade also gives an opportunity for political satire and comedy. The state of New Mexico has the highest percentage of Hispanics, including descendants of Spanish colonists who have lived in the area for more than 400 years, so as you would imagine “The Donald” didn’t fair well at the parade.

To be part of the Marigold parade, everyone always has to be painted like a skeleton, because it's part of death. It's not about Halloween, terror or fright. It's about honouring the equality of life and death.
