the embankment
This man-made embankment separates the Galop Canal on the left from the
St. Lawrence River on the right .... This canal was needed to skirt the Galop Rapids
at Cardinal. Ontario .... It was discontinued in the 1950’s when the Seaway was opened. The locks are no longer used and a portion of the embankment has been removed to allow easy access.
It is miles long and very popular with fishermen and scuba drivers .... On such a calm day, you can see the current leaving the canal and entering the river.
