American biologist James Watson and English physicist Francis Crick reached their groundbreaking conclusion of 1953: that the DNA molecule exists in the form of a three-dimensional double helix.
In 1990, Watson was appointed as the Head of the Human Genome Project at the National Institutes of Health, a position he held until April 10, 1992
Crick was interested in two fundamental unsolved problems of biology: how molecules make the transition from the non-living to the living, and how the brain makes a conscious mind.
