CWM Coke Works, Booster Hall.
Possible Britain's second largest remaining bank of compressors, I'm not sure? Who knows what's hidden beneath our feet by the likes of the MOD etc, I'm pretty sure from what I've seen though these here at CWM are the second largest amounts of decent electrically powered compressors in the UK, only being outdone by the Great Grimsby ice Factory. A little mad and a massive shame really considering how common sights like this used to be! These compressors built by the Bryan Donkin Co Ltd of Chesterfield were used to provide compressed oxygen to the coke ovens keeping a good draft within to keep the furnaces lit well. I've seen some pictures from Orgreave of this set up identically barring their use of what look like Bellis & Morcom machines.
