Future Farm - 0230
This appeared one day on a roundabout near my house. At first I thought it was a half completed construction project, but what kind of structure would have bent steel gurders, maybe vandals have been at it who knows.
As time went by it did'nt change, I thought they must have run out of money, then a little garden appeared under it and then I thought what the heck is that, its a piece of public art !
I was driving with my dad one day and I pointed it out, I said look wot councils built on our roundabout, and he told me what its supposed to be, its meant to represent sheeves of corn in a field, the penny dropped.
Then driving past today I had an epiphany I could see the true purpose of the art. It was a vision of the future.
Metal sheeves of corn reaping a harvest from the wind....a wind farm.
Now I think its awesome, credit to the artist, they created a vision and a prophecy of the future. VAWT ( Vertical Axis Wind Turbines ) on the top of every lamppost reaping a new harvest from the wind.
This is an awesome idea, we have 7 million tall strong lampposts in Britain and a small VAWT on top of every one would go along way to meeting our future energy needs.
It makes perfect sense, we already have the structures, they are already wired up to the mains and they are situated close to urban areas where the electricity will be used. People can drive along the road and see these little fellas working for them, helping to power and heat there homes.
Who said art cant be useful and inspiring. Just a little suggestion though to future artists planning projects in Yorkshire, put a placade on it, so we have some idea what its supposed to be, and we dont return to default conclusions, that the councils has wasted our money yet again :)
