LASIK or Lasik (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a type of refractive surgery for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. LASIK is performed by ophthalmologists using a laser.[1] LASIK is similar to other surgical corrective procedures such as photorefractive keratectomy, PRK, (also called ASA, Advanced Surface Ablation) though it provides benefits such as faster patient recovery. Both LASIK and PRK represent advances over radial keratotomy in the surgical treatment of vision problems, and are thus viable alternatives to wearing corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses for many patients.

Today I visited the eye clinic where I served as an EXCIMER LASER Field Engineer for ten years before I joined the University of Bahrain. I attended some 20,000 refractive surgeries performed on the cornea to correct myopia, astigmatism, hyperopia or a combination of astigmatism with the other two. Here an excimer LASER's high energy photons are utilized to reshape the cornea to replace the correction which is normally provided by a glass. In LASIK the surgeon cuts a 150 micrometer flap off the cornea and exposes the underlying part to a well-calculated and precision-shaped laser beam. The computer does all the computations for the correction and controls the LASER to deliver pulses for approximately a minute. The exact duration is determined by the degree of correction. At the end of the operation, the ophthalmologist flushes the treatment site with medication and restores the flap in place. The epithelium of the cornea regenerates within 24 hours and the flap is literally welded in place.

Bir hastaya LASIK yontemiyle hipermetrop+astigmat tedavisi yapiliyordu. Bu dort karelik seri, bu ameliyattan cekebildigim goruntuler. Daha iyi goruntu alabilmey isterdim ama doktorla hemsirenin pozisyonlarini degistirmesi, ameliyat tepsisinin yerinden oynatilmasi gerekirdi.
Bu ameliyatta bir ArF EXCIMER LASER'in yuksek enerjili fotonlari ile normalde camla duzeltilen gorme kusuru - korneaya yeniden sekil vererek - duzeltiliyor. LASIK tekniginde doktor korneadan 150 mikron kalinliginda bir flap kesip alttaki dokuya bilgisayar tarafindan hesaplanmis ve kontrol edilen LASER darbeleri gonderiyor.Ameliyat goz kusurunun dercesine bagli olarak bir kac dakika suruyor. Bu surenin sonunda doktor flapi yerine yerlestiriyor. Epitel doku 24 saat icinde rejenerasyon ile yenilenip flap alttaki dokuya kayniyor.
