Birds... mostly owls

Some things about owls and me.The owls in this set were mostly found by me. I do not like to photograph “celebrity” owls and do so only occasionally. Its ok…just not my thing. I have learned quite a lot about owls over the years and I know how to find them and approach them. I consider it a failure of my observation skills if I cause an owl to flush though sometimes they see me before I see them…in which case it is not my fault. I do not believe in the use of live bait to photograph owls closely. I think it unethical and photographically lazy. If you want to photograph an owl hunting then spend time in the field with it…hours, days. Its cheating to buy a mouse at a pet store and then try and pass your photos off as “wild”.
The owls in this set include the resident owls of the Ottawa area plus the four species that occur occasionally in the winter.

I have seen Burrowing Owl about 52k away from Ottawa and the only other owl on record here is Barn Owl…but very very rare.
