“It Belongs to this Modern World.” Magazine ad for the 1939 Lincoln Zephyr V12.

The Trylon and Perisphere in the background are iconic symbols of the 1939 New York World’s Fair. They were located at the center of the fair and represented the fair’s theme of “Building the World of Tomorrow.” The Perisphere housed a diorama called “Democracity,” which was a vision of a utopian city of the future. Both structures were eventually melted down to make bombs for World War II. So much for a utopian future.
