"The Big Freeport Indian (BFI) was originally commissioned by the Leslie Family, who opened Casco Bay Trading Post in 1947 on the site of what is now Winter People Clothing Company. The BFI was built in Pennsylvania and transported to Maine on a flatbed truck in 1969. It weighs 1,500 pounds, and is 8’ wide and 30’ tall. The BFI is made of wood and fiberglass and has served as the unofficial gateway to Freeport for more than 40 years. Winter People Clothing Company has lovingly restored both this iconic Route One landmark, and the original Casco Bay Trading Post building back to their original glory."
