Avon 18820 (1974). The Story of The Phantom #11
The Phantom is a long-running American adventure comic strip, first published by Lee Falk in February 1936. The principal character, the Phantom, is a costumed crimefighter who operates from the fictional African country of Bangalla. The character has been adapted into many media, including television, film, video games and paperback novels.
In this particular novel, few people would dare to venture into the deadly reaches of the Great Swamp. The few who had entered into its mists had never emerged to tell of their experiences. Yet, if one knew the Great Swamp and knew how to survive, no better hiding place could be found. So, it is there that a pack of ruthless escaped convicts set up their headquarters, leaving them free to plunder the surrounding areas. They called themselves the Swamp Rats, and the Phantom is the only man who could meet the dual challenge of this evil gang and the treacherous swamp.
