The Praxinoscope Theatre from "Popular Scientific Recreations" by Gaston Tissandier (ca. 1890).

The animation studio Pixar created one of the finest examples of a zoetrope, which was on display at Disney parks. A large group of three-dimensional sculptures seem to come alive.
