Cape Barren Geese, Phillip Island, Australia.
The Cape Barren Goose (Cereopsis novaehollandiae) is a large goose resident in southern Australia. The species is named for Cape Barren Island, where specimens were first sighted by European explorers.
On a recent trip to Phillip Island we saw a number of geese at two different sites, browsing by the roadside. They allowed me to approach to within several metres, they then made it quite clear that it was far enough !! When assured that I would respect their wishes, they continued feeding quietly, pecking away at the grass.
