feeling discouraged....

...and uninspired these days. I made the mistake of watching the news. I wanted to see how hurricane dorian was progressing hoping it would miss everyone. and then, lo and behold, another mass shooting in texas, 4 weeks after the last one.

 

I live in a country where the "president" denies any climate change or global warming. any extreme weather event that doesn't contain the words "warm" are poo-pooed and laughed at by the leader.

If there are disasters along the coast from dorian, mr trump will probably complain about the cost.

I mean really, he needs to build that wall.

 

I live in a country where the "president" thinks there are good nazis and that immigrants are nasty and dirty and bad. and where puerto rico, an unincorporated territory of the united states, is described in similar terms. we need to remember our american territory was given the royal shaft after hurricane maria. [trump managed to visit and toss out paper towels.] according to PBS trump "...complains about the amount of disaster aid that Congress “foolishly gave” Puerto Rico after the deadly destruction from Hurricane Maria in 2017. He has talked as if he doesn’t recognize the U.S. territory as American and, in an April tweet, said Puerto Rico officials “only take from USA.”

and according to trump did you know that “This is an island surrounded by water, big water, ocean water"????!!!

Duh.

 

I live in a country where the state of Texas has had two mass shootings in 4 weeks and is addressing the problem by loosening up on gun laws. The laws will further loosen gun restrictions in a state that's had four of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern US history.

go figure.

I watched a press conference re the latest shooting with 7 dead and 22 injured and the governor and officials said that really, not all of their mass shootings were accomplished with AR's.

[well, now I feel all better.]

 

I live in a country where nothing will be done about mass murders because they are committed by “nuts” and nothing has been done about mental health treatment.

And paraphrasing an anonymous source re nuts who may have committed mass murders: “It is crazy people with guns. A crazy person without a gun has never shot a person.”

 

I live in a country where rich entitled people can bribe major universities with massive amounts of money to get their children admitted. And some of those people feel that they have done nothing wrong.

 

I won’t mention here the entitled wealthy vs. food and medical assistance for people with limited incomes.

 

**we are on limited fixed incomes. We have both medicare and private insurance which is pricey. Yet we still pay out of pocket for medical. “Added extras”

We pay our taxes.

I would rather see our money go to people who need help, including immigrants, than to building an isolationist military model. Or a wall.

 

I would like to see education free for all who want it, all the way, whether it be college and graduate studies or trade schools or whatever.

 

I would love to see free medical/health care for everyone who lives in the U.S. if the wealthy want private care they can buy it.

 

And no one should go hungry. No One.

 

We have libraries. We have police. We have fire departments. We are already socialistic.

Let us tend to our people.

and to our planet.

 

 

I send my sorrow for the latest victims of the latest texas mass shooting.

I send my hope for dorian's shift out to sea, and my sadness for those people already affected by it.
