判官（成都）

This photo shows an ancient Chinese judge followed by members of his entourage in Chengdu. The judge had absolute power and could set most severe sentences, similar to those set by Judge Jefferies at the old Dorset Assizes in the UK. M. Faucault in his book Discipline and Punishment outlines the role of the judiciary in western society.
