Miniature Canadian Red Ensign Flag .... From 1931 Time Capsule .... Toronto, Ontario, Canada
.... In 2012, a time capsule from 1931 was discovered in a wall of Maple Leaf Gardens during the hockey arena's renovation. Among the dozen items in the time capsule, was a miniature Red Ensign flag (Canada’s national flag at the time) The Red Ensign served as Canada's flag from 1868 to 1965 when it was replaced by today's Maple Leaf flag. In the 21st Century, the Canadian Red Ensign continues to be flown today both in official and unofficial capacities. It is flown alongside the Maple Leaf flag at numerous war memorials, it is also used by veterans' groups and is part of the official colour party (together with the Maple Leaf) of the Royal Canadian Legion. The flag is sometimes flown on vintage ships and at heritage sites where it is historically accurate.
