Town Lattice Covered Footbridge .... Royal City Park / Speed River .... Guelph, Ontario

Built 1992 - The Lattice Covered Bridge is located at the start of the Eramosa River Trail near the Guelph Lawn Bowling Club in central Guelph and serves as a pedestrian and cyclist crossing for the Speed River. It was erected in 1992 with the help of 400 volunteers, all of whom were members of the Timber Framers Guild. The bridge was constructed using building designs from the 1820s and is almost completely unique, being one of two lattice covered bridges in Ontario .... Ithiel Town (1784-1844) was a prominent American architect and civil engineer. Ithiel Town patented his Town Lattice truss design in 1820 and to this day, it is still considered one of the most durable and longest lasting of all covered bridge truss systems. Not to mention the lattice design allows the bridge to have more natural light than any other truss design ....
