Abandoned Berclair Schoolhouse - Berclair,Texas

Berclair is a tiny unincorporated community on US 59 about sixteen miles south of Goliad. It was founded in 1889 and served as a shipping point on the Gulf,Western Texas Pacific rail line. I couldn't find much information on the old schoolhouse,so I enlisted the help of Ms. Shelly Park of the Goliad Public Library. She was kind enough to do some research but was unable to learn when it was built. However, she was able to determine that it was in existence as early as 1918. So,while it's uncertain when it was built or when it was last in use, it appears to have been around for at least the last 100 years. Texas public schools consolidated around 1944 and the Berclair school probably closed in the late 1940s or early 1950s. Berclair,Texas. 7.5.2017.
