Louisiana Training Institute For Boys - Monroe,Louisiana

Prior to the turn of the 20th century, children and adults with mental health and/or behaviorable problems in Louisiana where locked away from the public. As of 1910 children as young as seven years old were still being housed in the adult prison system.

The Prison Reform Association of Louisiana attempted to separate juvenile and adult offenders. Legislative Act 173 of 1902 created the State Reform School (also called the Louisiana Training Institute) for white male juveniles ages seven to seventeen.
