Originally completed in 1929 to attract customers to "take the water" from the wells in the area, the hotel is undergoing extensive renovation and is due to reopen in 2024. In its heyday, it attracted many celebrities including the Three Stooges, Bonnie and Clyde, Clarke Gable, Judy Garland, Will Rogers, Marlene Dietrich, General Pershing, L.B.J., Jean Harlow, Sammy Kaye, Jack Dempsey, Sam Rayburn, Helen Keller, Ronald Reagan and Mary Martin.
