Kirkjufell and Kirkjufellsfoss
Kirkjufellsfoss (Kirkjufell waterfall) is a beautiful waterfall near the fishing village of Grundarfjordur in Iceland, on the north side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, actually existing of two steps, the upper falls and the lower falls. This shot is taken of the lower falls. The Kirkjufellsfoss is situated in the Kirkjufellsá (or: Kirkjufell river) getting its water from the eastern part of the rather high and extended mountain ridge called Helgrindur, an extinct volcano that erupted many thousands of years ago. The two steps of the falls are separated by about 150 linear feet, the upper tier dropping 28 feet in anywhere from two to five side by side plunges, while the lower tier splits into two primary channels - one side cascading and then plunging, while the other plunges a sheer 26 feet.Thank you for your support, views, faves, and comments !
