Photo taken in the summer of 1997 AD. Philadelphia. Paved over probably 1999 AD. There were a few interesting examples where the person making the tiles experimented with the "negative" lettering which is left after cutting out the words. Apparently the attempt to suspend the lettering itself in place without any material surrounding it didn't work so well - as you can see, the letters tend to slide pretty far. Still impressive that the word JUPITER is readable. Amazing. I always get a real feeling of reverence when I encounter Toynbee tile!

Note how JUPITER is UNDERLINED for EMPHASIS in blue!
