Ghost town Street
The mill town of Banksiadale near Dwellingup amazingly survived the Great Dwellingup Fires of 1961...however the sawmill burnt down in 1963 and the Government decided that the area was to be flooded in the development of the South Dandalup Dam. The entire town was then removed and today if you were to take the Banksiadale Road from Dwellingup you would end up under water, as most of the townsite did. This photo shows the road which ran past the sawmill (originally State Railway Sawmill No. 2, and later sold to Hawker Siddeley) down the gully and eventually into the town of Dwellingup about 8km away.
