A King's Manor doorway birthday card
For several years now I have drawn a birthday card for a former colleague with the same birthday as me. I usually aim to draw a subject that has associations for her. After much head scratching this year I did this view of King's Manor in York. My friend is an archaeologist that studied historical buildings and got a masters degree in buildings studies from the University of York, based here at the King's Manor. The drawing, using a Pentel 0.5mm pencil on watercolour paper, is based on a study I made of the 17th century doorway and arms of Charles I. She got in touch to say she is thinking of framing the drawing. 2020 has been challenging for her. In addition to the coronavirus both her parents have been ill and need of her support. My drawings on social media she says "have been a welcome distraction". Glad to have been of help.
