Writing a Safer Torah
While volunteering in Yerucham I was invited to witness the writing of a Safer Torah. The scribe had finished all but a few words. It was inspected by a number of Rabbis and then the last letters were written. Most held the scribe's hand as he wrote the letter while some, like this Rabbi chose to yield the quill themselves.
The Rabbi first tied a cord around his waist as a symbol of the separation of the hold from the worldly.
