At the time the flint lock rifle was the most advance weapon in the military weapons arsenal.

Thanks to Alec, for the following intell: the flint lock rifle had a rifled barrel, while the British used the Brown Bess musket, which was smooth bore--and this put them at a dreadful disadvantage, except for mass firing at close range.
